Why Does Tanjiro's Sword Always Break in Demon Slayer?

If you watch Demon Slayer, you may have noticed something funny — Tanjiro’s sword keeps breaking again and again. While other characters use the same sword for a long time, Tanjiro always ends up with a broken blade. But why does this happen?

1. Tanjiro Fights Very Strong Demons

Tanjiro is not an ordinary fighter. From the start of his journey, he has fought powerful demons like Rui, Akaza, Daki, and more. These demons are not easy to defeat. Their bodies are very hard, and they use big, dangerous attacks.

So, when Tanjiro tries to block their attacks or hit them with full power, his sword takes all the pressure. Sometimes, that’s too much for the sword, and it breaks.

2. He Uses a Very Strong Breathing Style

Tanjiro starts with Water Breathing, but later he learns Sun Breathing (also called Hinokami Kagura). This is the most powerful breathing style in the anime.

Sun Breathing uses a lot of energy and strong, fast moves. When Tanjiro uses this technique, it puts a lot of stress on the sword. The blade heats up, bends, or breaks because it can’t handle the power.

3. His Fights Are Very Intense

Tanjiro’s battles are always wild and fast. His sword has been:

Damaged during the fight with Daki and Gyutaro (Upper Moon 6)
Snapped during his battle with Akaza (Upper Moon 3)

In these fights, Tanjiro gives everything he has. He pushes his sword to the limit, and sometimes it just can’t keep up.

4. Nichirin Swords Are Strong, But Not Unbreakable

Tanjiro’s sword is a Nichirin Blade. It is made from a special ore that kills demons by absorbing sunlight. These swords are strong, but they are not unbreakable.

If used too hard or against very strong enemies, even a Nichirin Blade can crack or break. And since Tanjiro fights with full force, his sword often ends up breaking.
